For the last several days the media has brought up Nancy Pelosi over and over again.
I have heard Republicans talk about her as if she is the one who waterboarded the detainees at Gitmo. They want to know what she knew and when she knew it. But, they simply miss the point.........THE BUSH/CHENEY ADMINISTRATION WAS IN CHARGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dick Cheney is out talking about the Obama Administration not keeping America safe, what does he know?
Oh, wait, he was the real president over the last 8 years, I forgot, Sorry about that.
The idea that Nancy Pelosi is somehow misrepresenting the CIA's briefings is insane.
I think that the Republicans need to be careful with what they say and do with this.
Some are asking for a "truth commission" to get to the bottom of this. Well if you want the Bush Administration to lie under oath go ahead with the commission.
The bottom line on the torture issue is this:
THEY LEFT A PAPER TRAIL!!!!!
I am not saying that I condone torture, but when our government does things that it's not suppose to I thought the officials were suppose to have plausible deniablitiy.
If they wanted to torture detainees they should have passed a law allowing the practice. After 9/11 they could have gotten anything to pass for about 2 years after. They could have stripped the constitution of every right if they wanted to, and some say that they did.
The Bush Administration had everyone scared to death and they could have done anything they wanted to, but what did the Republican Congress do? They passed a resolution boycotting French made products and renamed French Fries.
Even if they didn't change the laws they could have done anything they wanted as long as they didn't leave a paper trail.
It is the existence of this paper trail that begs the current Administration to allow for the prosecution of any and all parties complicit in the torturing of detainees, if they block this then their change and transparency argument are gone and the Republicans will have no tact in beating them up over it in 2010 and 2012.
